Key Meeting Scheduled At Parliament Premises
A crucial meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 11:30 a.m.,where the Parliamentary Education Committee will meet with key stakeholders in the ongoing public universities’ lecturers’ strike.
Those expected to appear before the committee include:
✅The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migosi
✅Vice-Chancellors’ representative
✅Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) officials
✅Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) leaders.
✅The session will be held at Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, and aims to address the seven-week stalemate that has paralyzed learning in all public universities nationwide.

The meeting is expected to focus on:
1. The implementation of the 2017–2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), specifically the KSh 7.9 billion in arrears owed to university staff.
2. The government’s phased payment proposal that unions have rejected, insisting on full payment before resuming work.
3. The impact of the strike on students, institutions, and the academic calendar.
4. Possible intervention by Parliament to unlock the stalemate through mediation or budgetary adjustment
✅ Current Situation
✅The strike has entered its 7th week, with no lectures, exams, or administrative functions ongoing in most universities.
✅ Treasury had approved a KSh 7.9 billion disbursement plan, to be released in phases, but UASU and KUSU rejected the offer.
✅Some universities are considering temporary closure i.e (JKUAT,Karatina, Kibabi, Masinde Muliro)to avoid escalating costs and disruptions.

1. Parliament’s Stance: Whether MPs will pressure the Treasury to release the full amount at once or support the phased plan.
